“Wake Up London is a group of young practitioners (from 16 to 30 something) who come together on the second and fourth Saturday afternoons of each month in London to practice the art of mindful living, inspired by the teachings of Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh.”
A “flash mob” is a large group of people meeting in a crowded public place for the purpose of coming together in an inspired activity. There have been mnay flash mobs across the world that range from dance, hugs and more.
There first meditation flash mob happened in Trafalgar Square in June of 2011. Hundreds of people gathered in Trafalgar Square and sat in meditation for 40 minutes. The intention is to promote meditation to the public. Since then they have had many flash mob meditations throughout London. These flash mobs have taken place in many busy places around London such as Trafalgar Square, in the Great Court of the British Museum, Picadilly Circus, In front of National Gallery, Victoria and Albert Museum and on the steps of St. Pauls Cathedral. They are recieving very positive response from these flash mobs and encouraged to do more spreading mindfullness and peace.
Wake Up London is also working with an international movement called Med Mob, which is coordinating meditation flash mobs across the world at around the same time each month.
The next Wake Up London gathering will be on March 10, 2012 in Soho Sqaure. “Join Londoners and thousands of people in over 300 cities around the world for an hour of silence..Wake Up London are joining forces with MedMob, and the annual event, Moment of Peace, to ‘create the biggest single gathering of meditation, prayer and mindful silence in the history of the world’” Join in person, gather a group or in the comfort of your own home for this moment of peace.
